JioCinema unveils pricing in battle with Netflix, Disney

JioCinema has announced premium pricing of 999 rupees ($12) a year, its first step away from a free content model to compete with Netflix and Disney. JioCinema will offer popular HBO and Warner titles, including "Succession" and Harry Potter, following a content deal with Reliance's Viacom18.

A new premium pricing plan for Hollywood content was announced on JioCinema's website on Saturday, including the much-anticipated Succession series.

HBO's top shows, including Succession, aired in India on Disney Hotstar until March 31 as part of a deal between the two companies.

JioCinema is popular for letting audience watch the IPL cricket tournament for free. According to the website, the new pricing only applies to premium content. Matches will still be free.
